Unique crisis stabilization center for mental health needs, and the County’s first recovery station for substance use disorders. Other services include withdrawal management, adult residential treatment (transitional, co-occurring and substance use), and an integrated support center. The campus features 93 beds and has the capacity to treat about 100 people each day. While the facility will primarily treat adults, it will feature limited youth and adolescent crisis stabilization services, and strong partnerships with Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) and other community-based organizations to assist with further treatment needs.

Children's Hospital of Orange County is a nationally ranked pediatric hospital. 2nd Year MSW students have the opportunity for placement in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Intensive Care Unit, Outpatient Specialty Care Clinic, or the Feeding Team/Gastrointestinal Team. During the second semester, students will rotate through other areas of the hospital with preceptors. Students will continue to be supervised by their field instructor throughout the entire year. The goal of the program is for the students to gain inpatient as well as outpatient experience with a wide range of patient populations within a multidisciplinary team. There is also an opportunity for a "macro" student this year who will work with the Social Services manager and supervisor on projects, quality improvement, training, and other tasks. At least a portion of the time will be spent in a clinical setting with a preceptor. MSW intern will be part of a multidisciplinary team. The role of the intern within that team is to provide support to the patient and the family in coping with the hospitalization, the acute medical condition, or a life altering condition. Social work interns will conduct psychosocial assessments in order to identify barriers and challenges to medical treatment and safe discharge.

City Net is a team of nonprofit professionals who work to end street-level homelessness in a city or region through the coordination of community efforts and activities. MSW interns will be a part of a homeless outreach team that partners with law enforcement agencies to conduct assessments in the field and provide collaborative case management. They will also have the opportunity to conduct case management at the emergency shelter in Santa Ana and work with partner agencies to provide service coordination for clients. Clinical skills utilized are: Motivational Interviewing, Problem Solving, Professional Teamwork.

Crittenton

Crittenton Services provides individual and group therapies to children, youth and families who have trauma histories. Some clients reside in the agency's Residential Treatment Centers and some reside in the community. Crittenton works toward uniting children and youth who come to this country unaccompanied with family in the US. Crittenton prides itself in treating clients with the most severe traumas including abuse, neglect and commercial sexual exploitation. The MSW student learns to provide individual and group therapies. The student will learn mental health diagnosis using the DSM V. Students placed in the Unaccompanied Children's Program or in the Foster Care programs will learn to work with children and their families in the USA and in the child's home country.

Families Together of OC

Families Together of Orange County (FTOC) is dedicated to assist in overcoming obstacles and to serve as the bridge between the people within our community and the services that they need as pertaining to health, wellness, and practical services. This is an integrated medical and wellness clinic that provides on-site medical, vision, dental, and behavioral services. The behavioral team will provide education, clinical therapy, and case management services to members. Additionally, the team works closely with on-site providers for collaboration to address medical and systemic needs of the members. The Mental Health Center at Hoag Hospital has been providing outpatient mental health services since 1998. The goal of the Mental Health Center is to improve the health and well-being of the surrounding underserved community, through the provision of psychotherapy services. There is a heavy focus on training and being in the learner role. Students will be given the opportunity to be trained clinically and be provided various supervisory and training opportunities. The intern will carry their own clinical caseload and be trained in writing progress notes, biopsychosocials and treatment plans. There is also a lot of opportunity for interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary consultation and collaboration. Macro work would focus on the further development and implementation of the Melinda Hoag Smith Center for Healthy Living whose mission is to work synergistically in a shared location with our partner agencies and community residents to bridge the gaps in services, build capacity and maximize impact in our under-resourced communities. The vision is to inspire and empower our community to take control of their own health and wellbeing and offer services that meet the needs of the whole person: mind, body and spirit. Students will be responsible for their own clinical caseload of 8-10 psychotherapy clients. These are clients across the lifespan and in every modality including groups. Students will also be responsible for their own documentation including progress notes, biopsychosocials, and treatment plans. Students are extensively trained and supervised and are expected to be in the learner role vs. a fellow staff member.

As part of Kaiser's Behavioral Health umbrella, the mental health clinics are located throughout Inland Empire, including Chino, Montclair, Ontario, Fontana, San Bernardino, Redlands and the High Desert. The clinics service children, teens and adults with a variety of mental health issues and provide individual, family, and group therapies. MSW Interns will begin by shadowing clinicians on Intakes and groups, and eventually begin doing their own Intakes and picking up individual therapy cases along the way. Interns will also be involved in either co-leading a group or developing a group from scratch. Macro level projects can also be provided for student to learn. Both individual and group supervision are provided and students can participate in case conferences, staff meetings, and any trainings if they are in placement when these activities occur.

McKinley Children’s Center is a non-profit organization with multifaceted services. This is a 40-acre campus, originally built in 1900, and includes community outpatient mental health, school-based mental health, residential placement, foster/adoption programs, Canyon View non-public school and after school programs. McKinley Children’s Center provides an enriching opportunity for MSW interns to gain exposure to children, youth and families who are experiencing a variety of mental health issues. This is a fast-paced environment, ideal for those who want to learn a great deal about clinical practice. MSW students will carry a caseload, conduct assessment intakes, make preliminary diagnosis and treatment plans; provide individual, family and group therapy, brief therapy, treatment team consultations, crisis intervention and case management. Weekly individual and group supervision will be provided. This site contracts with County of LA DMH; students will be trained in DMH paperwork, CPR and first aid training will be provided. This agency is an ideal training agency for those students who wish to gain direct clinical training. Students will gain experience in completing comprehensive assessments, diagnosis, treatment planning, therapeutic interventions and completion of treatment. Students will gain DMH documentation training, opportunities to participate in evidence-based training, and other advanced clinical and professional training. This is a fast-paced environment, ideal for those who want to learn a great deal about clinical practice. MSW students will carry a caseload, conduct assessment intakes, make preliminary diagnosis and treatment plans; provide individual, family and group therapy, brief therapy, treatment team consultations, crisis intervention and case management.

MHALA serves adults and transition-age youth who are facing mental health needs and do not have financial resources, including Veterans and people who are or have been homeless. MHALA uses an integrated, comprehensive service model that meets each individual where they are and tailors services to each person’s needs. Services are strength-based and delivered by teams of interdisciplinary professionals. Focus is on integrated care, mental health, physical health, substance use in the recovery model. MSW students will facilitate group therapy, discharge planning, individual therapy, case management, complete assessment including but not limited to psychosocial suicide risk, trauma and substance use assessments. The agency provides services in both clinic-based and field-based capacities, in schools and in local communities. The agency incorporates family-friendly, strengths-based models into its programs and services. Depending on the specific location, students TYPICALLY operate in the role of a mental health therapist while at Pacific Clinics. They are all trained in DMH paperwork, and accordingly learn the nuances of documentation, diagnosing, treatment planning, etc. for clients being treated in a behavioral healthcare organization.

Providence Trinity Care Hospice provides a full range of palliative care, hospice care and compassionate support to patients and their families throughout Los Angeles and Orange County. Interns will have the opportunity to do home visits, visits within the hospital, SNF's and Board and Care's and provide psychosocial assessment and support by phone as well. Opportunities for co-leading a support group and completing a macro project are available as well. Field instructors will be facilitating bi-weekly journal clubs and group supervision as well as individual supervision.

MSW student will operate as an apprentice Social Worker, having assigned patients to meet with to complete psychosocial assessments, care plans, make collateral contacts, plan after care/ D/C planning, facilitate groups, under supervision of Social Services staff. The Case Management department is comprised of both RN Case Managers's and SW Case Managers's. Both provide discharge planning, resource and referrals and care coordination throughout the continuum. Focus is on patients with high probability of readmission due to medical issues and social determinants of health.
